Chérie
A term for Black lesbians who are feminine/femme! Flag is designed to recognize our pride in being Black, and to embrace our beauty. Black women are moe, Black women are soft, and much more. We are against the stereotypes. We stand for freedom, and self-expression.Made for Black femmes exclusively!
Chérie means darling in French and reflects the softness and endearing nature of a femme.
Why?
There are terms like butch, masc, femme, and stud in the community. However there are no terms that represent Black femmes. There was a term 'Belle' that Black femmes were genuinely happy about. Only to find out that the creator changed it, and it was no longer exclusive to just Black femmes. I wanted to suggest a new term. I also wanted to create a flag that I felt could represent us as well.
Flag Meaning

Cher

A term for Black lesbians who are studs! We thought it was right to also create something that pairs well with Chérie.Made for studs exclusively!
Cher is the French equivalent of “dear” and it was made to go with Chérie. This reflects the important connection that exists between femmes and studs in the lesbian community. Studs often look after femmes, so they’re dear to them and femmes are studs’ darlings.
Charmant(e)

Made for stemmes exclusively!
Charmant/Charmante means charming. It can be used in both with or without the e, as the meaning is the same. Charmant is the male version and the one associated with popular concepts like “prince charming”, which is the archetype of a gentleman. Charmante describes an enthralling, beautiful woman with poise. Stemmes can hold both these aspects of the same term!
Artichaut

Made for Aro/Ace Black lesbians only!
In French there’s an expression “un coeur d’artichaut” (an artichoke heart) that means to fall in love very easily. In this case the label subverts this by referring to the many ways aroace find love and affection around them without needing it to necessarily be romantic. They’d be a “cœur d’artichaut” because they’re eager to invest themselves in undervalued forms of love like platonic, aesthetic or love for their community.
